Shirana Shahbazi for Ricola

How do artists see our products? What ties them to Ricola and what do they wish to show us? That a company like Ricola, which has been collecting contemporary art from Switzerland since 1975, should ask questions like these is only natural.

Zurich-based artist Shirana Shahbazi (born in 1974) photographed the original Swiss herb drop for Ricola. Shahbazi depicts a Ricola drop which has already been sucked and is still moist, highlighting the enjoyment factor in her perception of the herb drop. This photograph is featured on our website and in selected cultural media.

Shirana Shahbazi’s work has been featured in the Ricola Collection since 2002. Shahbazi gained international fame with the photographs she took of Tehran, the city of her childhood, as part of her diploma project for the photography course she attended at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). The family left Iran in 1985 and settled in Germany. Shahbazi moved to Zurich as a student in 1997, and has lived and worked there ever since.
